The charm and beauty associated with the electroweak gauge bosons with ATLAS

Where:

503/1-001 at CERN

The production of electroweak gauge bosons is a probe for a wide range of important physics aspects at the LHC. When produced in association with heavy quarks, their production cross sections and their kinematic distributions are sensitive to the flavour content of the proton, and provide a test of perturbative QCD.
This seminar presents ATLAS measurement of inclusive and differential cross-sections of Z bosons production with at least one c-jet, or one or two b-jets, performed at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The measured cross sections are compared to  state-of-the-art theoretical predictions.
The production of W bosons in association with a single charm quark, identified through the presence of a D or D* meson with a displaced vertex, will be also presented. Measured cross sections are compared to NLO theoretical calculations, and provide information about the strange content of the proton.
