The CERN Safety Rules listed below have been published on the CERN website dedicated to the Safety Rules:
- Safety Guideline SG-C-0-0-3: Safe Handling and Storage of Lead at CERN
Safety Guidelines provide detailed instructions for the implementation of CERN Safety Rules. Compliance with a Safety Guideline provides a presumption of conformity with the associated CERN Safety Rule.
This Safety Guideline, which provides guidance for the implementation of Safety Regulation SR-C “Chemical Agents”, has been updated.
The main changes compared to the previous version are:
- the inclusion of hazard statements and associated labelling for lead compounds;
- detailed instructions on management of access to areas liable to be contaminated with lead;
- definitions for operational and non-operational areas with respect to the acceptable thresholds for lead surface contamination;
- revision of the threshold concentration for lead in paint and construction materials;
- an update of references and alignment with the recently published Safety Guideline on beryllium.
The CERN Safety Rules apply to all persons under the Director General’s authority. They are available under the following link: http://www.cern.ch/safety-rules
