Film documentaire inédit sur le CERN

Il y a 70 ans naissait le CERN, au cœur de l'Europe, avec une mission ambitieuse : percer les mystères de l’Univers. Des chercheurs du monde entier s’y réunissent depuis, dans un esprit de collaboration unique. Parmi eux, Robert Klapisch, physicien des particules, qui y consacre de nombreuses années de sa vie, notamment en tant que directeur de la recherche du CERN, poste qu’il occupe de 1981 à 1987.

Son fils, Cédric Klapisch, réalisateur de nombreux films populaires dont L’Auberge Espagnole, a longtemps cherché à comprendre ce qui fascinait tant son père. En 2021, alors que le CERN lance la construction du Portail de la science, il suit le chantier, attiré par l’œuvre de l’architecte Renzo Piano, mais aussi par un besoin plus intime, lié au deuil de son père. Il y entame un voyage initiatique où se croisent histoire, science, art et mémoire, donnant la parole à Fabiola Gianotti, directrice générale du CERN, ainsi qu’à de nombreux jeunes chercheurs – de cette génération qui a vécu la découverte du boson de Higgs et continue de poursuivre cette magnifique quête du savoir. 

Boson de Higgs, Big-Bang… Co-réalisé par Jean-Luc Perréard et Cédric Klapisch, ce film documentaire propose un regard plein de poésie, de tendresse et d’humour sur le CERN et ses chercheurs, et aborde certaines des grandes questions scientifiques auxquelles ils cherchent à répondre.

Le CERN vous invite à venir découvrir en avant-première le film documentaire Les vrais chercheurs (ne savent pas ce qu’ils cherchent...) au Portail de la science le 25 septembre prochain. Ce sera l’occasion de découvrir un film qui célèbre la recherche comme un chemin fait d’expériences, d’émotions, et de transmission intergénérationnelle, dans une ambiance inspirée par les tapis rouges et les paillettes des plus grands festivals de cinéma.

70 years ago, CERN was created at the heart of Europe with an ambitious mission: to unravel the mysteries of the Universe. Since then, researchers from around the world have gathered here in a unique spirit of collaboration. Among them was particle physicist Robert Klapisch, who dedicated many years of his life to his work here, including as CERN’s Director for Research – a position he held from 1981 to 1987.

His son, Cédric Klapisch, director of many popular films including L’Auberge espagnole (Pot Luck), has long hoped to understand the work that his father found so fascinating. In 2021, when construction began on the CERN Science Gateway, he followed the project closely, drawn in by the work of architect Renzo Piano, but also by a more personal connection: the loss of his father. So began a journey of discovery, where history and science meet art and memory, featuring discussions with CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti, as well as many young researchers from the generation that witnessed the discovery of the Higgs boson and is continuing the incredible quest for knowledge. 

Covering the Higgs boson, the Big Bang and more, and co-writted by Jean-Luc Perréard and Cédric Klapisch, the new documentary offers a poetic, thoughtful and humorous insight into CERN and its researchers, and touches on some of the key scientific questions they hope to answer.

CERN invites you to a preview screening of the documentary film Les vrais chercheurs (ne savent pas ce qu’ils cherchent...) – Real researchers (don’t know what they’re looking for) at Science Gateway on 25 September. This is the chance to discover a film that celebrates research as a journey of experimentation, emotion and the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next, in an atmosphere inspired by the all the red carpets, glitz and glamour of major film festivals.
