Gautier Hamel de Monchenault is a French particle physicist who took up the role of CERN Director for Research and Computing in January 2026. Physicist at CEA Paris-Saclay since 1989, he earned his PhD from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in 1992.
After a long collaboration with the BABAR experiment at SLAC, he joined the CMS experiment at CERN in 2004, where he contributed to the electromagnetic calorimeter before holding several management positions, including CMS spokesperson from 2024 to 2025.
From 2016 to 2020, he headed the Particle Physics Department at CEA Paris-Saclay.
